The electric dance music veterans from England are known for their expressive shows that are always full of surprises and their performance on the main Positivus festival stage wasn’t an exception. A trumpeter in a crow’s costume, two brightly dressed singers with hair colored so many shades it is impossible to count, recklessly amazing dancers introduced as “children of the lights” and of course also the almost classical man in a gorilla costume running on and off the stage.
The performance was magical and insane at the same time. Most of the festival attendants came together to move in Basement Jaxx’s passionate rhythms and feel as a whole. For more than an hour everybody let their guards down and let themselves to be who they are, expressing it through the dance moves.
Basement Jaxx is noticed not only for their very powerful danceable rhythms, but also carrying social messages through their songs. Encouraging to embrace your personality and unique being, inviting to be kind, spread your love and just to go wild once in a while. This time Basement Jaxx stepped on the stage garnishing themselves with rainbow elements, carrying the liberating message of equality. At one of the first compositions the audience members came together to sing the almost anthem-like song Somewhere over the Rainbow from The Wizard of Oz and show their support to equal human rights all over the world, spreading love and understanding. And that’s exactly what Basement Jaxx is all about.
The lead singers Vula Malinga and Sharlene Hector shook their booties and encouraged the audience to go a little crazy keeping all the young and old fans partying all night. No limits, no rules, no restrictions to be kept: the performers set the crowd free and just let them be who they are. One of the band’s founders Felix Buxton triumphed in the end of the show, stepping away from his keyboards and grabbing a mike. He showed off amazing vocals singing the song Where’s Your Head At?, causing the whole crowd to sing along and lose their minds dancing to this live peak of Basement Jaxx’s career. Amazing, just amazing.
